For the first time in its 10 year history, Polonia Open 2010 by Zywiec had the distinct honor of having a PGA Pro attend the opening ceremony. PGA Pro Ken Duke, who has won over $5 million on the PGA tour between 2005 & 2009, welcomed all Polonia Open 2010 golfers on Wednesday evening at the Marriott Hotel. He stayed for almost the entire evening to sign autographs and have pictures taking. He also told everyone that he is available to play 9 holes on Sunday morning with anyone that was interested.
Only Janusz Baczyk & his lovely wife, Mirka and Henry took advantage of his offer. They played 10 holes with Ken Duke on Sunday morning and he was 5 under after 10 holes, 5 pars and 5 birdies, amazing golf. Before they played, he spend about 45 minutes with then on the practice range showing them how to grip and swing the club correctly when hitting from a greenside bunker, how to chip around the greens. On the range, he showed them how to correctly step up to ball, where to position the ball, how to position their hands, the correct take-away with proper follow-thru.
Mr. Duke told Janusz & Henry that he has a very strong Polish connection. His personal golf instructor is the legendary Bob Toski, who is one of the top 10 golf instructors in the world. He said that he was going to see him the following day to work on his short game before leaving for Panama. Mr. Duke is now playing on the Nationwide tour. After 27 holes at the Panama Claro Champion, Ken Duke was 10 under, leading the field of 138 golfers, but then ran into some trouble and finished 25th.
Henry received an email from Ken Duke informing him that he spoke with Mr. Toski about Polonia Open and Mr. Toski told him that next year he wants te participate in Polonia Open 2011.
Below are pictures of Ken Duke, Mirka, Janusz and Henry taken at the Tesoro Club.
